Alex Mkandawire is responsible for the financial management function of the Fund. Alex is the Fund/Finance Manager and his responsibilities include overall establishment of the grant making facility for CSOs and management of Fund’s finances; preparation of annual work plans, procurement plans and budgets for Board’s approval; designing financial management requirements of the Grant Management Information System (GMIS); designing financial management systems to ensure smooth running of the Fund including financial controls and reporting mechanisms for both the Secretariat and grant partners; compiling and updating annual and quarterly forecast expenditures; Treasury Management of Tilitonse bank accounts; and supporting the internal and external audit processes.
Alex is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA), UK and a Certified Public Accountant (Malawi). He is a seasoned Financial Management consultant with over 20 years of post-qualifying work experience in providing advice in financial management; privatization & public sector reforms; auditing; and decentralization to a wide range of clients including the Governments of Malawi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, aid agencies, major state-owned enterprises, financial institutions and local private sector organizations in Malawi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe.
He has extensive experience in public financial management, auditing, budgeting, procurement, design/development and implementation of financial management and accounting systems, grant management and donor financial reporting. He has undertaken several reforms in the area of public financial management in Malawi and Rwanda.
