Adamson Joseph Kuseri Mkandawire currently serves as Democratic Governance Advisor within the DFID Malawi’s Governance and Security Team. He is the lead on political and democratic governance, empowerment and accountability portfolios. He has worked in government at senior position and has enjoyed over 10 years of development work with a cross- section of international and local organisations and agencies. He has worked on a variety of consultancy assignments both with local and international organisations and was for a time the Managing Director of Rhodes Consulting.
He is a Political Governance and Human Rights Specialist and is a fellow of the Danish Centre for Human Rights. He has an in-depth knowledge of participatory rights assessments as one of the early champions in practical Rights Based Approaches in Malawi; institutional and organizational development; capacity building of local civil society organisations; donor coordination mechanisms; Grant Aid and Technical Cooperation support; Program & strategy design; research and baseline studies and significant expertise on grants funding stemming from years of managing a huge locally run governance and human rights awareness grants facility. He has sat on Governance Boards of several NGOs and has helped to set up and support a significant number of local CSOs in Malawi.
He is a graduate of the University of Malawi in the field of education and has also obtained post-graduate Professional qualification in Project Management with the University of Cambridge.
